It’s been a few days since brunch with my parents, and Nate bending me over the counter. We haven’t talked at all. Thankfully, work has kept me busy, so I haven’t had much time to dwell on it. But at night, when I’m alone in my bed, the hunger for him surfaces.

I’ve thought about texting him, or showing up at the bar in case he’s there. If it’s just sex, would a late night booty call text be out of the question? Probably not, but I haven’t worked up the courage.

I’ve got another hour of work today I need to put in before I can relax and enjoy my next few days off.

When I graduated high school and told my parents I wouldn’t be going to a traditional college, I knew I’d have to find a job they’d feel was worthy of skipping out on traditional school. I lucked out and found a remote position with a marketing firm that paid well enough. I’d taken enough graphic design classes in high school and was able to bullshit and google my way through everything else to secure the position.

It worked out perfectly because the flexible hours allowed me to go to culinary school and intern with a few pastry chefs. Honestly, as grateful as I am for this job… I’ll be so glad when I can put in my notice soon.

When I close my laptop for the day, I fall onto the couch and start mindlessly scrolling on my phone. A message pops up on the screen and my heart jumps.

Nate: There’s an event at the Atlas tonight that I’d like you to attend with me.

Nate: As my date.

Nate: Elizabeth and Richard will be there.

The Atlas is the nicest hotel in Sheridan and the events they hold are usually very swanky and very formal.

Me: I have nothing to wear.

I stare at the screen, waiting for Nate to realize having me as his date is a mistake and change his mind. I don’t want him to, though—change his mind. I want to see him again. I need to see him again.

Nate: Don’t worry about that. My driver will pick you up in half an hour. You should have just enough time to take a shower, but don’t worry about doing your hair or makeup.

Oh god. His driver? Don’t do my hair or makeup? My stomach comes alive, nerves taking hold.

Nate: Bea?

So impatient.

Me: Yes, okay.

Nate: Good girl.

I smile at my phone screen. This man, and his praise, his good girl comments make me instantly wet.

I jump in the shower, shaving my legs and washing my hair quickly. My thoughts travel to what Nate would look like in the shower, all soapy and dripping wet. His long hair dripping and his tattoos slick with water. I take the shower head off the hook and bring it between my legs, changing the setting to one that has a steady, hard stream of water.
